ABOUT

NOKOGODO gives a pulse to potential in our watercolor games and indie RPG showcases!

We’re an American worker cooperative video game development studio founded in 2020 that brings games to life with fun ideas and traditional watercolor aesthetics.

Since 2021, we’ve annually hosted Mother Direct to celebrate fans of the MOTHER game series and showcase Motherlike indie RPGs.

Our first game release in early access during 2022 was an arcade survival game titled Sunshower. We are currently developing an RPG called GNOMONIC.

We can assist with the development of games and game-adjacent projects outside of our studio through trailer video editing, scenario writing, graphic art, and text localization (English-to-Japanese or Japanese-to-English). Want us to help with your project? Let us know!

TEAM

KODY NOKOLO – Director, Writer, Localizer, Programmer, UI Designer

Kody is a writer who’s been playing story-driven games for all of their life. On their journey to an English degree, they’ve done academic research on how games’ stories involve their players, focusing specifically on how players exert their power over games to influence characters and stories. They’re also a computer-wiz who loves programming and game-design so much that they created visual novel games for their creative writing assignments in college.

They annually organize events with RPG developers to collaboratively promote the genre and indie RPGs through presentations and Steam sales.

JSPINZ – Artist, Graphic Designer

JSpinz is an artist who has specialized in watercolor illustrations for over 10 years. Though she mostly works with watercolors, she has programmed and created pixel art for her own games in the past, and she contributes to her friends’ games like in Harvest Hero Origins.

She’s been preparing her characters for their video game debut long before the start of NOKOGODO because she’s always thought of them as eventually being part of a game she’d make. She’s new to having a presence online, but you can tell from her grade school notebooks that creating new characters and worlds is nothing new to her.

PAXTON – Game Designer, Programmer

Paxton is a professional programmer who designs and illustrates games in his spare time, including various hobby projects. He understands what makes a game good – that it’s fun! (And he’s especially good at cleaning up Kody’s code messes, thanks!)

He annually designs for and contributes to organizing a Super Mario Maker level design event.
